Between March 27 to May 14, 2013, Malaysia had a ministry called the Ministry of Higher Education. The Ministry of Education Malaysia was split into the Ministry of Education Malaysia and the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia as part of a cabinet reshuffle by Malaysia's Prime Minister Abdullah bin Ahmad Badawi. Dato' Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin currently holds the latter position, which was first filled by Datuk Dr. Shafie Mohd Salleh. The Ministry of Education and Higher Education Malaysia, also known as the "Ministry of Education Malaysia," was reorganized on May 15, 2013, by merging with the Ministry of Education. Later, the term Ministry of Education Malaysia was revived in order to reflect the ministry's previous portfolio, which included management of primary, secondary, and postsecondary education.
