The National Remote Sensing Committee (JKRSN), which is presided over by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Prime Minister's Department, established the National Remote Sensing Center (MACRES) in 1988 as one of its eight (8) components. In accordance with MOSTE's responsibilities in the sphere of science and technology as well as the projected establishment of MACRES under MOSTE, JKRSN was subsequently put under the supervision of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment (MOSTE). The National Planetarium served as the catalyst for the creation of the Planetarium Division, which is part of the Prime Minister's Department (JPM).
